The Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices

The Japanese Society for Dental Materials and Devices was founded on April 3, 1982 at the inaugural meeting held at Nihon University School of Dentistry, by merging two separate societies "Japan Research Society of Dental Materials & Appliances" and "Japan Society for Dental Apparatus and Materials". Our society is the largest academic organization for research on dental materials and devices in Asia.

By aiming at the maintenance and improvement of the quality of our members, we strive for advancement and development in the fields related to dental materials and devices (dental biomaterials, dental materials and devices, and dental technologies), and thereby for contributing towards an improvement in public health and welfare.

In addition to the general conference held twice annually, each of our five regional divisions hold an annual seminar, providing the members with numerous opportunities for presentation of research outcome and information exchange. We also hold a central role to organize International Dental Materials Congress, an international academic meeting held once every four years, and are actively engaged in international exchange.

Our society issues official journals in English (Dental Materials Journal; 2016 IF: 1. 073) and in Japanese. We also publish the journal "DE" for clinicians, which is specially focused on dental materials and devices.

Regarding research fields, we cover extensive areas from basic science to clinical applications, and are actively linked together with various academic societies in clinical fields. We have a title accreditation system that accredits members as specialists of dental materials and devices based on strict evaluation of research activities in their area of expertise.
